Is FIS a public or a private faculty?
FIS is a public faculty. It was established on the basis of the Act on establishing an independent higher education institution the Faculty of information studies in Novo mesto (Official gazette, no. 67/2008), passed by the National assembly on 24th June 2008.
Is the faculty independent or is it a part of a university?
FIS is an independent public higher education institution and is not a part of an existing university.
Is the study free of charge?
There is no tuition fee for full-time students, they only have to pay a registration fee.
Where do the lectures take place?
The lectures take place in Novo mesto (the Cultural centre of Janez Trdina, Novi trg 5, The Centre of biotechnical science and tourism, Sevno 13), in Nova Gorica (Grammar school of Nova Gorica, Delpinova 9 and Student’s hostel), in Ljubljana- postgraduate study (Emona efecta Ltd, Stegne 21c).
Where is the faculty situated?
The faculty is situated in Novo mesto, in the premises of the Cultural center of Janez Tradina at the address Novi trg 5.
What professional or academic title does a student achieve after completing the study?
First degree graduates achieve a professional title: Bachelor of social and information science (higher education), Bachelor of social and information science (university education).
Second degree graduates achieve a professional title: MSc of social and information science.
Can a graduate of a post-secondary professional school apply to enter 3rd year of the programme Information science in the contemporary society (higher education)?
A graduate of a post-secondary professional school can apply to enter 2nd year of the programme Information science in the contemporary society and has to pass differential exams in the overall volume of 30 credit point at the most, which have been defined by a competent board of the faculty on the basis of the established differences between the programmes.
Can an employed person also apply for a full-time study?
The employed can also apply for a full-time study. The timetable has been adjusted so far that pedagogic activities take lace in the afternoon and on Saturday morning.
Is it possible to apply for the study during the school year as well?
It is not possible to apply for the study during the school year. According to the legally arranged schedule the application procedures take place from 25th July to 10th October.
What are the application conditions for a full-time study?
Anyone, who has not taken all the possibilities of a full-time study, can apply for this study; this means that he/she can take the same year again once or can change the study programmes once during the course of studying. If someone has already been registered as a full-time student and has also taken a possibility to take the same year again, he/she cannot change the study programme as a full-time student.
