Bosnia and Herzegovina 2019 Expert Excursion
The Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto organised an expert excursion to Bosnia and Herzegovina as part of the Jean Monnet project from 28 May to 31 May 2019. During the excursion, participants visited the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sarajevo, and two other major cities, Tuzla and Mostar. During the excursion, they learned about the customs of the people of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
2018 Switzerland Expert Excursion
In the framework of the Jean Monnet Chair CPE 2020 project, FIŠ organised a professional excursion to Switzerland – Lausanne, Geneva and Zurich – from 23 April to 26 April 2018. The participants got acquainted with the United Nations and the Slovenian Embassy for Human Rights at the UN Permanent Mission, and also visited the Swiss National Technical University – ETH Zurich, which is one of the most prestigious European universities in the fields of ICT, computer science, mathematics and physics.
Brussels 2017
From 30 May to 2 June 2017, FIŠ students and staff, as well as some external participants, took part in a professional excursion to Brussels. There they visited European Union institutions such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, the regional representation or lobby organisation in Brussels and had plenty of free time to explore the Belgian capital and the European Union.
Expert excursion to Switzerland 2015
The field trip to Switzerland took place from 7 to 10 April 2015. The students visited ETH University Zurich, where they toured the ETH University and tried out the earthquake simulator at the FocusTerra Museum. On the second day of the excursion, they visited the Olympic Museum in Lausanne and spent the afternoon in Geneva, where we visited the major sights. The excursion ended on the third day with a visit to the United Nations Headquarters and CERN, where we were welcomed by our professor, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matej Mertik, who is currently doing research at CERN.
Professional excursion to Italy 2013
On 29 and 30 April 2013, FIŠ students went on a two-day professional excursion to Italy. They visited the Ducati and Ferrari museums, where they also had a peek inside the motorcycle and car factories themselves. At Ferrari, they also took part in a workshop at the Red Campus Laboratory. After a day of exhaust fumes, there was a day of relaxation at the Mirabilandia amusement park.
Professional excursion to Strasbourg, Luxembourg and Brussels 2011
The expert excursion to Strasbourg, Luxembourg and Brussels took place from 21 to 25 March 2011 and our students joined students from the Faculty of Applied Social Studies in Nova Gorica. The participants learned more about the characteristics of European institutions such as the European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of Europe, the Court of Auditors, the Slovenian Economic and Research Association and visited other interesting sights of European cities.
Professional excursion to the Netherlands 2010
In February 2010, we organised an excursion to the Netherlands for students. The students were impressed by the varied professional and tourist programme, which included visits to the High Tech Campus, Delft University of Technology, ESOC (The European Space Operations Centre) and Microsoft Netherlands. Of course, they did not miss the main tourist attractions, such as Dam Square, the Jewish Quarter, the Royal Palace, the New Church, Anne Frank House, Rembrandt House and a stroll along the lively Leiden Street.
Switzerland 2009 Expert Excursion
The Study Tour took place from 12 to 16 May 2009 and took the students to Switzerland, where they first visited the UN building in Geneva and met Ambassador Andrej Logar and Minister Counsellor and Deputy Minister at the Permanent Mission in Geneva Boštjan Jerman. The day continued with a tour and presentation of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO). The following day, they visited the ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich) and the University St. Gallen. The third day of the excursion was dedicated to IBM Zurich (IBM Zurich Research Laboratory) and the last day was dedicated to a touristic tour of Liechtenstein.
Opening week of the academic year 2020/21
In the academic year 2020/21, we again organised the FIŠ Induction Week in the first week of October for all newly enrolled students. The Induction Week was intended for male and female students to get to know the Faculty, its organisation, the courses on the study programmes, as well as the opportunities available to you, e.g. the support of the FIŠ Career Centre, Erasmus+ international exchanges, the tutoring system, etc. Due to the epidemiological situation at the time in relation to the Covid-19 epidemic, the Induction Week was held online via the Zoom communication tool. On Thursday, 1 October 2020, we gave students a brief introduction to the Faculty and its activities, the lecture theatre, the library, and provided you with a lot of other information that will come in handy during your studies. On Friday, 2 October 2020, we gave students an overview of the courses, the Easmus+ programme, Cobiss and some useful study tips. We will finish with a fun quiz on IT and computer science.
Opening week of the 2019/20 academic year
The opening week of the new academic year 2019/20 took place from 1 to 3 October 2019. On Tuesday, we held a reception for the 1st and 2nd year students in the Exabyte Lecture Hall. On behalf of the Dean, the students were welcomed by the Vice-Dean for Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Katarina Rojko. They also learned about the workings of the Registrar’s Office, the Library, the Career Centre and a little bit about our supercomputer Rudolf. On Wednesday, the students got to know the Cobiss in more detail, learnt about the Erasmus+ exchange opportunities and got acquainted with the basic guidelines for the preparation of a term paper. Finally, there was a short IT quiz. Right after that, we moved on to the traditional sports picnic. On Thursday, the students, divided by study fields, got to know in more detail the providers of all the courses they will be encountering in the coming academic years. A banquet followed at the end of the day.
Opening week of the 2018/19 academic year
In the first days of the new academic year, FIŠ traditionally organised an Induction Week for first-year students at the 1st and 2nd cycle, as well as a meeting of PhD students and supervisors. On the first day, the Dean of FIŠ, Prof. Dr. Dejan Jelovac, addressed the gathered students, and the students had the opportunity to see, among other things, photo highlights from the past 10 years. The students were introduced to the activities of the Faculty, units and bodies of FIŠ, and the President of the Student Council called on the students to actively co-create events at the Faculty and stressed the importance of the Student Council. The activities of the FIŠ Registrar’s Office, the FIŠ Library and the FIŠ Career Centre were presented, as well as the importance of mentoring and tutoring. The students were also introduced to extracurricular activities and the supercomputer, the operation of the Moodle online classroom and the Microsoft Imagine programme, as well as research work at FIŠ. On the second day of the Induction Week, the students were introduced to the content of the courses, the lecturers and the tutorials, and attended a lecture on Stress and Relaxation Techniques by the Health Education Centre. On the third day, students learned more about Cobiss, databases and their use, and toured the library and reading room. We introduced them to the Erasmus+ programme and the Handbook for Successful Technology Transfer, as well as to the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Office (TTO) at FIŠ. To put the icing on the cake, at the end of the event, Associate Prof. Dr. Blaž Rodič conducted an entertaining quiz in the field of computer science and informatics. The winning team also received nice prizes. The introductory week was concluded with a meeting of PhD students on Saturday, 6 October.
Opening week of the 2017/18 academic year
On 2 October 2017, we entered the FIŠ Introductory Week, or the new academic year 2017/2018, with a presentation of the Faculty, its activities and activities. The event started with a welcome address by the Dean, Prof. Dr. Dejan Jelovec, followed by a presentation of the Faculty’s organs and activities, as well as a presentation of the Registry and the Library. The Vice-Dean of Students, Marko Jurman, then invited all students to actively participate in the elections to the FIŠ Student Council and presented the possibilities and ways in which students can also actively participate in the activities of the Faculty. The Career Centre and studies at FIŠ were also presented by a student who has already overcome all obstacles and successfully graduated. On Wednesday, the subjects that students will encounter during their studies at FIŠ were presented. The course providers and assistants were also introduced. There was a special lecture by the Health Education Centre (ZVC) Novo mesto on Stress and Relaxation Techniques, followed by a banquet at the end. On Friday, there was a presentation on Cobiss and searching the library’s databases, guidance was given on how to produce term papers, and we finished with a fun quiz, where we also gave out some prizes.
Opening week of the 2016/17 academic year
The opening week of the new academic year 2016/17 took place between Monday 3 October and Friday 7 October. On Monday, a reception was held in the Exabyte Lecture Hall for the graduating students, who were addressed by the new FIŠ Dean, Prof. Dr. Dejan Jelovac, and together with other FIŠ staff, were introduced to the functioning of the Faculty and its bodies, such as the Office for Academic and Student Affairs, the FIŠ Library, the FIŠ Career Centre, as well as to the extracurricular activities and many other features of study at FIŠ. Tuesday was followed by a presentation of FIŠ professors and assistant professors, and both Monday and Tuesday’s events ended with a banquet and a social gathering. On Thursday, a lecture was organised for all FIŠ students by the Health Education Centre Novo mesto, who presented to the students the characteristics and dangers of stress and relaxation techniques. On Friday, 7 October, the first lectures were given to the first year students of Computer Science and Web Technologies, who were addressed by the Vice-Dean for Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Biljana M. Boshkoska. This marked the end of the introductory week at FIŠ.
Opening week of the 2014/15 academic year
The new academic year 2014/15 ran from Wednesday, 1 October 2014 to Friday, 3 October 2014. Several events were organised, starting with the reception of the graduating students, who were welcomed by the Dean, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadja Damij and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Rodič. This was followed by presentations on the library, Erasmus+ international exchanges, extracurricular events and some motivational tips on how to write a good term paper. During the Induction Week, which lasted until Friday, 3 October 2014, the students also attended workshops on public speaking and the social network LinkedIn. On the following days, they also got to know the Novo mesto Business Incubator and the StartUp Society Novo mesto, the Nefiks institute, FIŠ projects and the Mikrografija and Smartis companies. The first day of studies ended with a reception for the students of the faculties of the University Area Novo mesto at LokalPatriot. There, the students were welcomed by the deans of the faculties, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadja Damij (FIŠ), Mag. The evening continued with a concert by Daret Acoustik and music by DJ Tomy Vertigo.
Opening week of the academic year 2013/14
The 2013/14 academic year started on Tuesday, 1 October 2013, when the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto was delighted to welcome a new generation of students. We organised several events to mark the opening week. First, the students were welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Janez Povh, and the Vice-Dean for Education, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Rodič. The evening was closed with a reception for the students of the faculties of the University Area Novo mesto at LokalPatriot. There, the students were welcomed by the President of the UNM Consortium Senate, Prof. Dr. Janez Usenik, and the Deans of the Faculties, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Janez Povh (FIŠ), Prof. Dr. Anton Jezernik (FINI) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boris Bukovec (FOŠ). The introductory week continued on Wednesday, when the main focus was on employability. On Thursday, the project day took place, when the students learned about FIŠ research and projects, watched the film Creative Core: Simulations, learned about international student exchange opportunities, the work of the Student Council and the destination of this year’s excursion.
Opening week of the 2012/13 academic year
On Monday, 1 October 2012, the reception of the students of the faculties of the University Area Novo mesto took place. At a social meeting in LokalPatriot, the students were welcomed by the deans of the faculties, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Janez Povh (FIŠ), Prof. Dr. Anton Jezernik (FINI) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Boris Bukovec (FOŠ). The introductory week continued at the faculty with presentations of the study processes, work placements, the library, the international study exchanges, the professional excursion and the Winter School 2013. The students were also addressed by guests who presented the new Eternal Tribute mobile app, employment opportunities in the EU and examples of cooperation with business (Diners Club Slovenia, Iddiction, Privoščite).
