Business Management in a Digital Society
The academic study programme Business Management in a Digital Society is implemented in the scope of 180 ECTS and covers various fields. The aim of the programme is for graduates to acquire basic knowledge in the field of social sciences, broad knowledge of social science research methods and comprehensive knowledge of ICT, so that they will be able to connect information technology with the needs of modern society. Graduates will acquire:
- Expertise in the field of ICT (information systems, databases, programming in various environments, computerization of business processes, electronic services);
- Theoretical and practical methodological knowledge of quantitative (statistical) and qualitative research methods and methods for network analysis;
- Extensive knowledge of theoretical and methodological concepts in the field of social sciences, of the importance and applicability of ICT in modern society and of the interactions between ICT and modern society. This framework includes knowledge of sociology, organization, economics, entrepreneurship, political science, communication, and related disciplines.
Enrolment into the first year
The following individuals can be enrolled in the first year of the academic study programme Business Management in a Digital Society:
a) Those who have completed the general matura examination;
b) Those who have completed the vocational matura examination according to the appropriate programme for obtaining secondary education in the field of (Klasius P-16 03): social sciences, journalism, and information science, and who have also passed an additional exam in one of the following matura subjects: mathematics, English, informatics, computer science, sociology. The additional matura examination subject must not be a subject already taken as part of the vocational matura;
c) Those who completed any four-year secondary education programme before 1 June 1995.
In the case of limited enrolment, the candidates under points (a) and (c) will be selected according to the following criteria:
- overall performance at the general matura examination or final exam (60% of points),
- overall score in the third and fourth year of secondary education (40% of points).
In the case of limited enrolment, the candidates under point (b) will be selected according to the following criteria:
- overall performance at the vocational matura examination (40% of points),
- overall score in the third and fourth year of secondary education (40% of points),
- performance in the additional matura subject exam (20% of points).
To advance from the first to the second year, the student must acquire at least 45 ECTS from the first year. To advance from the second to the third year, the student must complete all obligations from the first year in addition to acquiring at least 45 ECTS from the second year.
The faculty may allow the student to advance to a higher year, even if the required conditions are not met, in the following circumstances: maternity, prolonged illness, exceptional family or social circumstances, participation in top cultural, sports or professional events.
A student who does not meet the conditions for enrolling in a higher year may repeat a year once during their studies or change their study programme or course due to non-fulfilment of obligations in the previous study programme or course. It is not possible to repeat the third year because an additional year (absolventski staž) is intended for fulfilling the missing obligations.
In accordance with the applicable legislation, a student’s student status may be extended for a maximum of one year if the student:
- Does not enrol in a higher year for justified reasons;
- Does not graduate within 12 months after the end of the last semester for justified reasons;
- Gives birth during their studies.
Depending on their academic achievements, the student may complete the study in a shorter period of time than provided for in the study programme.
To complete the programme, the student must successfully complete all study obligations prescribed by the study programme, amounting to 180 ECTS.
A student who enrols in the second year of the Business Management in a Digital Society programme after graduating from a higher professional programme adopted after 1 January 1994 must complete all prescribed differential exams and the regular study obligations of the second and third years, totalling at least 120 ECTS.
A student who enrols in the third year after graduating from a higher professional programme adopted after 1 January 1994, must complete all prescribed differential exams and regular study obligations of the third year, totalling at least 60 ECTS.
The programme concludes upon the successful fulfilment of all study obligations.
Students of the academic study programme Business Management in a Digital Society will obtain the following competences:
- The ability to independently and autonomously utilise information and communication technology (ICT) within an organisation;
- Knowledge and understanding of a broad range of ICT applications in contemporary society;
- The ability to flexibly apply knowledge in practice;
- Mastery of research methods, procedures and processes in the field of social sciences;
- Knowledge and understanding of interactions between ICT and contemporary society;
- Development of communication skills and abilities, including in international environments;
- The ability to establish and maintain relationships for teamwork and collaboration with other individuals or groups (local communities, public administration organizations, businesses, non-governmental organizations);
- Organisational and leadership skills for managing active and independent work;
- The ability to identify and leverage opportunities within professional and social contexts (demonstrating entrepreneurial spirit and active citizenship);
- A commitment to the quality of professional work through autonomy, (self-)criticism, (self-)reflection and (self-)evaluation in professional tasks;
- Ethical reflection and commitment to professional ethics in the social environment, respecting the principles of non-discrimination and multiculturalism;
- Development of critical and self-critical judgement;
- Knowledge and understanding of social processes, with the ability to analyse, synthesise and anticipate solutions and their consequences.
Students of the academic study programme Business Management in a Digital Society will also obtain course-specific competences, which are listed in the individual curricula of the programme.
Curriculum - Business Management in a Digital Society
The programme Business Management in a Digital Society lasts for three years and is divided into six semesters. It includes 30 courses, of which 26 are obligatory and 4 are elective.

Obligatory Courses
The updated curriculum for the academic study programme Business management in a Digital Society will apply to first-year students from 1 October 2025 onwards. Decision of the FIŠ Senate on implementation.
The lecturers for the courses in the academic year 2025/2026 will be announced at a later date.
