On Friday, November 8, we successfully concluded the two-day Information Technologies and the Information Society Conference ITIS 2024, which focused on the potential impact of big data technologies and methods on the EU’s green and digital transformation.

Our team organized the 15th International Conference on Information Technologies and the Information Society, also known as ITIS, at the Urban Ring Hotel in Ljubljana. This year’s event highlighted the role of big data in supporting both green and digital transitions and explored its potential as a tool for sustainable digitization.

The conference officially opened on Thursday, November 7, with an address by the Dean of our Faculty, Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič. The first invited speaker, Dr. Francesco Tiezzi from the University of Florence, then launched the session on “Smart Cities and Industry.” This was followed by the session on “Blockchain and Business,” where Aleš Simončič, Technical Sales Manager for Southeast Europe at Lenovo Data Center Group, delivered an opening address.

In the afternoon, the program continued with a lecture by the third invited speaker, Dr. Ciara Heavin from University College Cork, who introduced the “Healthcare and Biomedicine” session. This was followed by sessions on “Education and Talent” and “Digital Transformation in Society.”

The second day of the conference, Friday, November 8, began with a lecture from invited speakers Dr. Franjo Cecel from the University of Surrey and Dr. Marko Debeljak from the Jožef Stefan Institute. Subsequent sessions covered a range of topics, including “Trends in Artificial Intelligence” and “Artificial Intelligence and NLP,” and featured three panel discussions.

This year, the conference welcomed numerous national and international experts from Austria, Croatia, Germany, Hungary, Macedonia, the Netherlands, Norway, and Serbia. The full conference program and additional information are available on the ITIS website at itis.fis.unm.si, where the Proceedings can also be accessed.
