Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tomaž Aljaž participated in a mobility program under the ERASMUS+ program at the School of Computer Engineering in Gran Canaria from February 24 to March 4, 2026.

Such mobility programs significantly contribute to strengthening cooperation between institutions, as they facilitate the exchange of knowledge, experience, and best teaching practices, while also laying the groundwork for further collaboration in the fields of education and research.

During the visit, Assoc. Prof. Aljaž gained valuable insight into the organization of the academic process and the research activities of the partner institution. The knowledge and experience gained will significantly contribute to the further development of teaching and research work in the home academic environment.

Of particular interest was the meeting with a research group that studies the behavior of marine animals, primarily sharks and dolphins, based on the analysis of underwater acoustic signals. They collect data using a specially developed underwater drone and analyze the results using artificial intelligence methods to identify patterns related to environmental factors such as time of day, season, and weather conditions. An interesting aspect of the research is a recent incident in which the research drone was damaged in an attack by a shark, which likely mistook it for prey.
