Do your computational needs exceed the capabilities of a standard desktop computer? Join us for a series of hands-on workshops where you will gain key skills for working on the HPC Trdina supercomputer and enter the world of High-Performance Computing (HPC).

Workshop HPC in Practice II: From Data to Topic Modelling

SESSION 1: Advanced NLP and BERT Architectures

When: Wednesday, May 11, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM (including break)

Where: FIŠ (online)

  • 9:00 – 10:30 | NorduGrid ARC: Connect to the grid How to access a wider grid infrastructure and effectively manage data transmission over distance. Lecturer: Pavle Boškoski
  • 11:00 – 12:30 | Foundations of Transformer-Based NLP Explore the transition from traditional statistical methods to modern transformer architectures. Learn how to leverage pre-trained BERT models to extract deep semantic meaning from large-scale, unstructured text. Lecturer: Biljana Mileva Boshkoska

SESSION 2: Scaling Analysis and Domain Adaptation

When: Thursday, May 12, 2026 | 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM (including break)

Where: FIS (online)

  • 9:00 – 10:30 | The BERTopic Pipeline: Dimensionality and Clustering A deep dive into the essential components: generating document embeddings, reducing high-dimensional data with UMAP, and mastering density-based clustering with HDBSCAN. Lecturer: Biljana Mileva Boshkoska
  • 11:00 – 12:30 | Apptainer Deployment, and Grid Execution Finalize your thematic analysis and package your BERTopic model into an Apptainer container and use NorduGrid to deploy and execute the pipeline across HPC Trdina and other available HPC clusters. Lecturer: Pavle Boškoski

Why attend?

  • Hands-on experience on a real system: Work directly on HPC Trdina to deploy robust analysis pipelines.
  • Free knowledge: Training is part of the SLAIF initiative to enhance digital competencies.
