On 1 September 2026, the DIGI-ENLARGE – Digital Transformation for Building Democratic Resilience project officially begins its 36-month journey under Horizon Europe.

The project addresses an important question for the EU’s future: How can digital transformation contribute to democratic resilience in the context of EU enlargement?

DIGI-ENLARGE brings together research on EU enlargement, digitalisation and democracy to examine how digital tools, civic participation, media literacy and innovative approaches to engagement can support more inclusive and resilient democratic processes.

The project will build an evidence base through comparative research while developing and piloting innovative digital civic engagement tools. It will also strengthen civic education and media literacy, with research findings translated into recommendations and practical resources for policymakers and other stakeholders.
