On Monday, 7 April 2025, at the traditional formal ceremony celebrating the jubilee municipal holiday, the Municipality of Novo Mesto presented awards to five distinguished individuals, among them also our Faculty’s Professor Dr Riste Škrekovski.

Each year, the Municipality of Novo Mesto traditionally honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of our local community. The 2024 municipal awards were presented at a formal ceremony held at the Janez Trdina Cultural Centre, which marked the 660th anniversary of the founding of Novo mesto. The five award recipients were recognised for their expertise and their cultural and societal contributions, which have significantly helped enhance the development and recognition of the town.

Among the award recipients was Prof. Dr. Riste Škrekovski, who received the award for his outstanding and lasting achievements in the field of scientific research and his contribution to the international recognition of scientific research in Novo Mesto.

Prof. Dr Škrekovski is one of our leading researchers and lecturers and the Head of the Graph Theory Laboratory. In addition to teaching Discrete Mathematics at the University of Ljubljana, he is also a member of the Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo Mesto.

His research is primarily focused on classical graph theory, but he also explores applied and interdisciplinary areas, such as chemical mathematics and complex networks. He has published over 250 scientific articles in these fields. He also leads several various projects and collaborates with numerous international researchers.

Warm congratulations to Prof. Dr. Škrekovski on receiving this award and for his outstanding contribution to scientific excellence!
