On Thursday, 5 February 2026, we held an informative professional excursion for third- and fourth-year students of the Krško-Sevnica School Centre at the Faculty of Information Studies (FIS). The discussion focused on artificial intelligence, machine learning, the supercomputer, and our new study programme Game and Extended Reality Development.

At the request of the students, who wanted to learn more about artificial intelligence and machine learning, we opened the event with a lecture by Tch. Asst. Teja Štrempfel entitled “When machines take over thinking: revealing the secrets of artificial intelligence,” which provided an insightful and interesting overview of the field, shedding the light on the basic concepts and practical examples of the use of artificial intelligence in the modern world.

This was followed by a presentation of the new study programme Game and Extended Reality Development, given by the programme’s creator at FIS, Asst. Prof. Lidija Đikanović. The students received first-hand, up-to-date and detailed information about the content, course and method of study, as well as the skills developed by the programme. It was particularly emphasized that the study programme will be implemented for the first time in the 2026/2027 academic year, opening new opportunities for study in the rapidly growing field of digital technologies.

Jani Pogačar from the IT Department presented supercomputing, the operation of the HPC centre, and our own supercomputer Trdina. He explained to the students how supercomputers are used in research, development, and industry, and then took them on a tour of the server room, where they could see up close the infrastructure that enables the execution of demanding computing processes.

The excursion continued at the institute Rudolfovo, where they gained insight into the practical application of knowledge, modern research equipment, and professions of the future—from idea to actual technological solution.

On Friday, 6 February, FIS participated in Career Days at the Krško-Sevnica School Centre. We presented our study programmes and opportunities for further study at FIS in to the students. Without a doubt, our new bachelor’s study programme Game and Extended Reality Development attracted the most interest, drawing numerous young technology enthusiasts.
