On Friday, 16 October 2026, the University of Novo mesto, Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto will host an Open Day at the HPC Trdina supercomputing centre, as part of the Open Days of Slovenian Supercomputing Centres, connected through the Slovenian National Supercomputing Network (SLING).
The event will offer high school students and other visitors an opportunity to discover the world of supercomputing, artificial intelligence, and advanced computing technologies, and to learn how supercomputing infrastructure is used to tackle complex challenges in science, industry, and society.
What awaits you at HPC Trdina?
At the Faculty of Information Studies, we will organise an accessible and engaging presentation on supercomputing and its applications, covering:
- what supercomputing is and why it matters,
- how supercomputers work and what they are used for,
- how supercomputing supports the development of artificial intelligence,
- how supercomputing contributes to scientific research and the development of new technologies,
- and real-world examples of how supercomputing infrastructure is used.
The presentation will be followed by a guided tour of the HPC Trdina supercomputing centre, giving visitors the opportunity to see the infrastructure up close.
The event is primarily aimed at high school students interested in computer science, artificial intelligence, technology and science. Everyone who would like to learn more about the fascinating world of supercomputing is also warmly welcome.
