As part of the Eco-School programme, our latest socially responsible initiative was a second-hand book collection campaign for the members of the Slovene Association Emona in Ruma, Serbia.
The association, whose primary mission is to preserve the Slovene language and culture, suffered a fire in November 2023, which led to the complete destruction of the building, including its library of Slovene books. To support the association, which currently has over 300 members, in continuing its ‘Reading with Slovenia’ events, the Eco-School programme successfully collected 366 literary and children’s books in Slovene.
The donation was symbolically handed over on 23 April, in celebration of World Book and Copyright Day. The collected books were presented to the association’s representative, Miroslav Strniša, by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Urška Fric, who led the book collection campaign within the Eco-School programme.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated in the campaign and wish the association continued success in promoting reading and preserving the Slovene language through the donated books.
