On Wednesday, 23 April 2025, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Dolenjska and Bela krajina, we successfully held the 16th Dolenjska and Belokranjska IT Conference, entitled “Implementation of NIS 2 in Practice: Challenges, Standards, and Best Practices.”

The participants were welcomed by Andrej Železnik, President of the IT Section and representative of the company TEM Čatež, d. o. o., and Tomaž Kordiš, Director of the GZDBK, setting the stage for the discussions to follow.

The opening lecture was delivered by Dr. Uroš Svete, Director of the Government Office for Information Security, who introduced the NIS 2 Directive and the Information Security Act (ZInfV-1) as key mechanisms for strengthening information security in companies. Uroš Majcen, Director of Cyber Resilience at Kontron SI, d. o. o., followed with a presentation on approaches and challenges in responding to cybersecurity incidents under the requirements of the NIS 2 Directive.

After a short break, the floor was taken by Jože Novak, Assistant Director and Head of IT Verification at SIQ Ljubljana, who discussed the use of international standards as a basis for compliance with the requirements of NIS 2. Then, Mag. Miroslav Kramarič, Information Security Officer at Krka, d. d., Novo mesto, presented the practical aspects of implementing NIS 2 in an international pharmaceutical company and shared practical experience. Dr. Tal Pavel, a cybersecurity expert and lecturer at our faculty, gave an overview of types of cyberattacks, key threat actors, and their impact on the security environment in the Balkan region.

The conference was concluded by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Rodič, Head of the Department of Informatics at our faculty and the event’s moderator. He summarised the key takeaways from the expert discussions and stressed the importance of developing comprehensive strategies to enhance organisational cyber resilience.

The expert day offered participants a comprehensive insight into the impact of the NIS 2 Directive on areas such as cybersecurity incident response, standardisation of security practices, and the systemic introduction of new security approaches in organisations across various sectors.
