On Tuesday, 10 June 2025, we held the 15th Graduation and Awards Ceremony, and the promotion of new Doctors of Science from the Faculty of Information Studies, at the Janez Trdina Cultural Centre in Novo mesto.

Degree certificates were awarded to 48 graduates of bachelor’s and postgraduate study programmes, and we also promoted four new Doctors of Science.

The ceremony opened with a speech by the Dean Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič, who emphasised that our faculty can confidently compete with any of the three existing Slovenian public universities in terms of the quality of its educational, research, and development work. It is therefore time for the faculty to become an indispensable part of the emerging fourth university within the Slovenian higher education landscape.

The keynote speaker was Boštjan Gaberc, Director of Mikrografija, d. o. o., who highlighted the importance of linking science and the economy and emphasised the opportunities available to young professionals in the field of the information society.

The Vice-Dean for Scientific Research, Assist. Prof. Dr. Maruša Gorišek, presented the faculty’s scientific and research work, followed by the formal promotion of four new Doctors of Science: Matjaž Drev, Darija Korkut, Edvard Kozel, and Alenka Trpin.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of faculty awards by the Chair of the FIS Awards Commission, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blaž Rodič. Awards were presented to students Gregor Janez Grajzar for the best undergraduate thesis, Andrej Trunkl and Uroš Valenčič for the best postgraduate theses, and Tinkara Grum for the best overall academic achievement in an undergraduate programme.

Awards were also given to faculty staff: Prof. Dr. Biljana Mileva Boškoska and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jelena Sedlar for achievements in the field of research, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zoran Levnajić for achievements in the field of education, and Senta Jeler for her contribution to improving the quality of the faculty’s organisation.

The ceremony featured musical performances by singers Anja Pevec and Klara Klemenčič, the latter performing in a duet with guitarist Kristjan Hočevar.
