Project title: Planet-Centric Knowledge for Global Citizenship

Collaborating institution: Institute for Social Morphogenesis

Project leader: Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič

Project type: Bilateral project

Brief project description:

This project addresses the feelings and narratives of belonging and identity among transnational students in relation to their constructions of local, national, and global communities. We investigate identities and senses of belonging within the context of empowering individuals and enhancing their agency. We see this agency as a crucial lever for morphogenetic social change aimed at a more sustainable future and the flourishing of not only humanity but the planet as a whole.

The project aims to explore how and when feelings of belonging transcend the boundaries of local and national identities, implying the existence of not only cosmopolitan but also planet-centric orientations. The key objective of the research is to illustrate when and how transnational identities act as a lever for social change towards planet-centric awareness and more sustainable behaviors.

The project is based on a partnership between the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, College of Education. The research team on the American side is led by Prof. Ph.D. Baoyan Cheng, while the Slovenian team includes Prof. Ph.D. Tea Golob and Assist. Prof. Ph.D. Maruša Gorišek.

The project is financed by: ARIS
