We would like to inform you that Ana Bezić, PhD, in the process of election to the title of Senior Lecturer in the field of Digital Art, will give a public trial lecture entitled Why Things Matter: Anthropology of Things.

Abstract:
In 1856, Karl Marx stated that ‘all our inventions and progress seem to result in endowing material forces with intellectual life and in stultifying human life into material force’. We have arrived to that paradox when a machine needs to confirm that we are human. Whether we like it or not, things around us affect the way we understand the world especially when they get in our way, or when they break. The things that we make, use, discard, admire, hate and struggle to understand have long been explicit and or implicit topics of anthropological scrutiny. In this lecture, I will give an overview of the multifaceted and multidisciplinary way of approaching study of things and the ways in which they get entangled in human experience.

The lecture will take place on Tuesday, 10th September 2024, at 10.00 via Zoom.
