Project title: Upgrade of HPC Trdina

Project coordinator: Faculty of information studies in Novo mesto

Project leader at FIŠ: prof. dr. Biljana Mileva Boshkoska

Partners:  University of Ljubljana (UL), Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto

Project type: Developmental – research project

Brief description of the project:

The upgrade of the HPC Trdina high-performance computing centre at FIŠ involves the purchase and integration of a new GPU server equipped with next-generation, high-performance graphics cards (e.g., NVIDIA H200 or equivalent). This will significantly strengthen our capabilities for modern research that combines complex simulations, big-data processing, and advanced machine-learning methods.

The new equipment will enable faster development and testing of algorithms and prototypes in the areas of complex networks, deep learning, physiological signal analysis, and socio-economic systems modelling, before solutions are transferred to larger national supercomputing systems (e.g., Vega/SLING). The server will be seamlessly integrated into the existing HPC Trdina infrastructure, while resource management will be carried out via the Slurm system, enabling researchers to access resources more quickly, run more experimental iterations, and reduce waiting times.

The upgrade will increase capacity for running multiple research projects simultaneously, strengthen collaboration with national and international partners, and contribute to greater research excellence and visibility of FIŠ, as well as to the development of competencies in artificial intelligence and big data.

The project is co-funded by: Slovenian Research and Innovation Agency
