Today, Thursday, 21 March 2024, we held an informative excursion for students of the Krško-Sevnica School Centre. We talked about supercomputing, artificial intelligence and ChatGPT, and also introduced them to our own supercomputer.

During the excursion, the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Dr. Matej Makarovič, first addressed all the participants. This was followed by a presentation by the Head of the Supercomputing, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Laboratory, Prof. Dr. Biljana Mileva Boshkoska, and a representative of the Informatics Department at FIŠ, Jani Pogačar, who spoke about supercomputing, the HPC Supercomputing Centre and our own supercomputer Trdina. This was followed by a lecture entitled “When machines take over thinking: unlocking the mystery of artificial intelligence” by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Panče Panov and a lecture by sientific associate Dr. Nika Brili, who spoke under the title “ChatGPT: Artificial Intelligence or Natural Stupidity?”.

The students had the opportunity to learn about the operation and development of supercomputing, while a practical demonstration of the use of the Faculty’s Trdina supercomputer gave them an even better insight into supercomputing technology itself. They also gained a better understanding of the development and operation of artificial intelligence, which is one of the fastest growing areas of computing today. Last but not least, they also learnt about the functioning and the possibilities of using the artificial intelligence tool ChatGPT.
