The international scientific conference ITIS – International Conference on Information Technologies and Information Society – took place on 12 and 13 November 2025 at Hotel Šport Otočec. Organised by the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto, this year’s event carried the theme “Building a Sustainable Future with AI and Human-Centric Digital Innovation”. As the leading academic forum in the Novo mesto region for many years, the conference once again brought together academics, entrepreneurs and representatives of public organisations, enabling the exchange of ideas on the development of digital technologies and their impact on society. This year, the organising team was joined by Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto, the Faculty of Organisation Studies, the Faculty of Industrial Engineering, and the Landscape Governance College Grm Novo mesto.

The diversity of participants enabled a constructive exchange of knowledge and experience between theory and practice, highlighting the practical value of the contributions presented.

This year’s conference was particularly rich in content: more than 70 authors presented the results of their research, innovative projects, and case studies in 36 contributions and 4 keynote lectures, covering a wide range of topics, from artificial intelligence, data science and generative AI to quantum computing and cyber security. Special emphasis was also placed on human-centred digital innovation, social responsibility and ethics in the digital society.

The applied areas featured at the conference included healthcare, education, smart cities, public services, and economic and industrial transformation.

Four outstanding keynote lectures shaped the event, presenting both research insights and practical applications:

  • Tatjana Petrov (University of Trieste, Italy) – “To Sting or Not to Sting: Unravelling Collective Behaviour in Honeybees via Stochastic Modelling”
  • Sagnika Sen (Penn State Great Valley, USA) – “From Insight to Impact: AI-Powered Process Improvement in Healthcare and Curriculum Design”
  • Dan Podjed (ZRC-SAZU / University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) – “Staying Human in the Age of AI”
  • Boštjan Gabrovšek (Rudolfovo – Science and Technology Centre Novo mesto, Slovenia) – “Classifying Knotted Proteins in the Age of AlphaFold and Machine Learning”

ITIS 2025 once again demonstrated that information technologies are a key driver of modern society, while at the same time demanding responsible, ethical and sustainable use. The event reaffirmed that a sustainable, human-centred digital society can only be built through close cooperation between technology, research and the economy.
