Study Abroad

Erasmus+ students study abroad

The Erasmus+ programme enables students to complete part of their regular study obligations at a partner higher education institution abroad. Mobility takes place within the framework of bilateral Erasmus+ agreements concluded by the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto.

Erasmus+ studies enable students to:

  • complete part of their study obligations abroad instead of at their home faculty,
  • study without paying tuition fees, enrolment fees, or other mandatory study costs at the host institution,
  • receive an Erasmus+ grant that co-finances part of the costs of accommodation and travel,
  • have their obligations completed abroad recognized within the FIS study programme,
  • access language support within the Online Linguistic Support (OLS) system.

As a rule, study mobility lasts at least 3 months and at most 6 months, unless otherwise specified in agreements or rules adopted by the FIS Senate. Partner institutions abroad may not charge visiting students under the Erasmus+ programme for tuition, registration fees, exams, library access, use of laboratories, or similar costs.

The number of available places, the duration of mobility, and the amount of grants are adjusted each year to the funds available to the CMEPIUS National Agency.

There are still 3 places available for the 2025/2026 academic year.

If you are interested in mobility at another higher education institution, we can explore the possibilities for establishing a new partnership together –  write to us at erasmus@fis.unm.si.

The application form for the call for applications for study purposes can be found at this link. The deadline for applications is until all places are filled. If fewer applications are received than there are places available, FIS will accept additional applications until all places are filled or funds are exhausted.

FIS students who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply for the study exchange:

  • are enrolled in the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd cycle of study in the current academic year;
  • are citizens of one of the countries participating in the Erasmus+ programme or citizens of another country while enrolled at a higher education institution in a participating country under the conditions set by each participating country and taking into account the nature of the programme;
  • have active student status at the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto during the mobility period;
  • meet the other conditions set out in the current Erasmus+ call for applications.

Applications are generally processed on an ongoing basis, and the call for applications is open until all available places are filled or the funds are exhausted. In the 2025/2026 academic year, the grant can be used until 31 July 2026.

As part of the application, the faculty may require the student to submit:

  • a completed application form,
  • basic information about their studies and the selected host institution,
  • any additional evidence or explanations, if specified in the call for applications.

If there are more applications than places available, candidates will be ranked according to the following criteria: priority will be given to students who have not yet participated in the Erasmus+ programme, and the average grade at the time of application will also be taken into account. The dean decides on the selection of candidates based on the proposal of the competent committee. Students are notified of the selection results by e-mail.

The recognition of obligations completed abroad is a fundamental principle of Erasmus+ studies. Obligations are recognized if they are:

  • agreed in advance with the home faculty and
  • recorded in the Learning Agreement for Studies.

The Learning Agreement specifies:

  • the subjects or study obligations that the student will complete abroad,
  • the method and scope of their recognition upon return to FIS.

The Learning Agreement must be confirmed and signed by the student, FIS, and the host institution before the start of mobility. In the event of changes to the study programme abroad, the student must coordinate the changes with the home faculty in a timely manner.

Your obligations abroad will be recognized in accordance with the regulations when choosing elective and certain regular exams, depending on the selected programme. Before the exchange, it is therefore necessary to coordinate your obligations abroad with the recognition of obligations at the faculty. For this purpose, the International Exchange Office is available to help you draw up an exchange plan. The Erasmus+ scholarship must be returned if you fail to complete the obligations agreed upon while abroad.

More information about the Erasmus+ programme can be found at this link.

Before mobility

Before going abroad, students must:

  • successfully apply for the Erasmus+ call for applications,
  • choose a host institution within the framework of valid bilateral agreements,
  • coordinate their study obligations with the faculty,
  • complete and sign the Learning Agreement for Studies,
  • take the initial language test within the Online Linguistic Support (OLS),
  • sign the agreement on the award of the Erasmus+ grant.

During mobility

During mobility, students are required to:

  • regularly attend and complete study obligations at the host institution,
  • immediately notify the Erasmus+ coordinator of any changes and coordinate changes to the learning agreement,
  • comply with the rules of the host institution and the Erasmus+ programme,
  • participate in OLS language support, if necessary.

After mobility

After completing their Erasmus+ studies, students must:

  • submit a certificate of completed obligations (Transcript of Records),
  • complete a content and administrative report (Beneficiary Module),
  • arrange for the recognition of completed obligations at FIS,
  • prepare a short contribution on mobility for publication on the faculty website.

Online Linguistic Support (OLS)

During the exchange, Erasmus+ students have the opportunity to use the Online Linguistic Support (OLS) provided by the European Agency EACEA to students. Link to the OLS presentation.

By signing the grant agreement, mobility participants commit to taking the OLS test (before and at the end of the mobility period) and to following the OLS language course, if assigned to them. FIS ensures the use of licenses and makes every effort to ensure that selected participants use all assigned licenses. Beneficiaries shall follow the instructions for using OLS provided by the service provider.

For more information about OLS, please refer to the programme presentation, the assessment presentation, and the language course description.
