Izobraževanje in kariera
Boštjan Pregelj je leta 2004 diplomiral in leta 2009 doktoriral na Fakulteti za elektrotehniko Univerze v Ljubljani (Slovenija). Leta 2003 je opravljal raziskave za diplomsko nalogo na Fachhochschule Gelsenkirchen v Nemčiji. Od leta 2004 je zaposlen na Institutu Jožef Stefan v Ljubljani na Oddelku za sisteme in vodenje, trenutno kot raziskovalni sodelavec. V letih 2009-2013 je bil delno zaposlen na Centru odličnosti za nizkoogljične tehnologije v Ljubljani. Od leta 2022 je sodelavec Fakultete za informacijske študije v Novem mestu, na kateri poučuje predmet Industrijska avtomatizacija za informatike.
Raziskovalno področje
Njegovi širši raziskovalni interesi vključujejo modeliranje, vodenje in optimizacijo hibridnih sistemov; vgrajeno izvajanje naprednih krmilnikov; modeliranje, vodenje in optimizacijo vodikovih energetskih sistemov; diagnostiko in lokalizacijo napak. Njegovi glavni raziskovalni dosežki so v dveh smereh. Prva je na področju vodikovih tehnologij, kjer je prispeval k vključevanju evropske pobude za vodik FCH JU in pomagal pridobiti več projektov EU na področju vodikovih tehnologij (FCGEN, FMPCFMPC, MEMPHYS, REACTT itd.), pri čemer je bil pri enem od njih koordinator projekta. Njegovi znanstveni dosežki na tem področju vključujejo optimizacijo krmiljenja gorivnih celic in optimizacijo zasnove sistema kot celote. Druga vrsta dosežkov sledi raziskavam in izvajanju več naprednih metod nadzora v primerih industrijske uporabe, ki so bile vključene tudi v redno proizvodnjo. Dosežki na tem področju vključujejo nove pristope pri diagnosticiranju napak v proizvodnih procesih in ocenjevanju kakovosti industrijskih izdelkov na koncu proizvodne linije.
Projekti
Bil je vodilni raziskovalec pri projektu FCGEN 7. okvirnega programa. Kot raziskovalec je sodeloval v 7 raziskovalnih projektih, ki jih je financirala Javna agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije, v 7 projektih EU v okviru programov FP6, FP7, H2020 in HEU ter v 1 projektu, ki ga je financiral Evropski sklad za regionalni razvoj. Sodeloval je tudi v 6 raziskovalno-razvojnih projektih, ki jih je neposredno financirala industrija.
Bibliografija
Je so-avtor 24 člankov v mednarodnih revijah, več kot 40 konferenčnih prispevkov (2 vabljena) in 1 poglavja v knjigi.
Mentorstvo
Je mentor doktorskemu študentu, v preteklosti pa je bil somentor več diplomskih in magistrskih del.
Druge dejavnosti
Deluje kot recenzent za različne znanstvene revije, je tudi član tehničnih odborov pri IFAC (tehnični odbor TC 6.3 Power and Energy systems) in SPIRE (skupina PWG Energy) ter slovenskega SRIP ToP (Prediktivno vzdrževanje). Leta 2008 je bil sourednik/organizator „The 9th International PhD Workshop on Systems and Control“.

Education & career
Boštjan Pregelj received BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2004 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) and PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering in 2009 at the same university. In 2003 he accomplished a Graduation project at the Fachhochschule Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Since 2004 he has been employed at Jožef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the Department of Systems and Control, currently as a research associate. From 2009-2013 he was partly employed at the Centre of Excellence for Low Carbon Technologies in Ljubljana. Since 2022, he has been a member of the Faculty of Information Studies in Novo mesto, where he teaches Industrial Automation for Informatics.
Research area
His broader research interests include hybrid systems modelling, control and optimization; embedded implementation of advanced controllers; modelling, control and optimization of hydrogen power systems; fault diagnostics and localization. His main research achievements are along two lines. The first is in the field of hydrogen technologies, where he has contributed to the integrating the European Hydrogen initiative FCH JU and helped to obtain several EU projects in the field of hydrogen technologies (FCGEN, FMPCFMPC, MEMPHYS, REACTT, etc.), one of which he was a project coordinator. His scientific accomplishments in this field include the optimisation of control for fuel cells and the optimisation of the system design as a whole. The second line of achievements follows the research and implementation of several advanced control methods in industrial use cases, which have also been integrated into regular production. Achievements in this field include new approaches in fault diagnosis of production processes and industrial end-of-line product quality assessment.
Projects
He was the principal investigator in the FP7 FCGEN project. As a researcher, he has participated in 7 research projects financed by the Slovenian Research Agency, 7 EU projects within FP6, FP7, H2020 and HEU programmes, and 1 project financed by the European Regional Development Fund. He has also participated in 6 R&D projects directly financed by the industry.
Bibliography
He is the co-author of 24 papers in international journals, over 40 conference papers (2 invited) and 1 book chapter.
Mentorship
He is a mentor of a PhD student and was a co-mentor of several diploma and master’s theses.
Other activities
He works as a reviewer for various scientific journals and also serves as a member of technical committees at IFAC (Technical Committee TC 6.3 Power and Energy systems) and SPIRE (PWG Energy group), as well as Slovenian SRIP ToP (Predictive maintenance). In 2008 he was Co-Editor / Organiser of “The 9th International PhD Workshop on Systems and Control”.
